Lifetimes and minutes flash
through my mind.
In a second you could be gone
in a year I could still be crying.
Dangerous grounds have mines
planted in the past,
waiting to destroy a future
that is only a possibility.
Yet I find myself
attempting to swim
in this valley of tears
I have yet to shed.
I volunteer my heart
to push blood
through arteries
that may not return.
Lifetimes before
have shriveled veins
and there is risk of lost limbs
from fields of danger.
Still I tread.
Because in this war of fear
that I fight,
the ally of your love
